  • The new Big Spring Junior High School was dedicated on Sunday, July 18, 1999.

This 150,000 square foot structure cost $9.5 million.  It houses three computer labs and boasts a Promethean Interactive TV in each classroom.  Additionally, the school has 6 I-Pad carts (which can be utilized for instructional purposes).  There is a distance-learning center where students meet for special presentations or activities as needed.

The entryways to the cafeteria were repurposed from the entries of Boydstun School (which had been built on the same site in 1930).  In 1996, Boydstun School was razed to make room for this new facility.

BSJHS has two gymnasiums which can seat 600 and 1400 people, respectively.  In 2006, the large gym was renamed the E.C. Roberson Jr. Gymnasium for a coach who had dedicated himself to the district for just over 30 years.  Students voted to use Steers and Lady Steers as mascots and have black and Vegas gold as their colors.
