Discipline Plan/Reward System
I have three types of discipline management
and reward systems in order to give every student the opportunity to
be successful. I have a color system in place that the
students use to "pull" colors when rules are not followed or
behavior is not at its best!
Green:
This is the color that we want to begin the day on and end the day
on, and keeps Ms. Long the happiest!
Yellow:
First Warning
Orange:
5 minute time-out
Blue: 10 minute time-out
Purple:
Call parents
Red:
See the Principal
Weekly: There is a chart on the wall
with each student's name on it and the date of each school day.
At the end of each day, if the student has stayed on Green, they will
get a sticker on the chart under their name. On Friday, if a
student has earned a sticker for all 5 days of the week, they are
allowed to pick a prize from the Treasure Box.
Daily: The same chart. At the
end of the day, if a student has stayed on
Green or
Yellow, they are
allowed to pick from a reward chart that I have posted which
displays rewards that the students themselves selected as some of
their favorite things such as: sitting in the teacher's chair
at her desk; grading some papers; preparing the calendar and math
meeting board for the next day; free time on the computers;
organizing the books the bookshelves; having a bean bag all to
yourself to read or whatever; drawing; etc. I allow them to
come up with the rewards. The students love doing this even
though to me some if sound like work!
Feeding the Bear: We have an empty,
plastic Teddy Bear container and a small basket of plastic golf
balls. if the entire class stays on
Green for the entire day,
then at the end of the day, we feed the bear. When the bear
fills up with the golf balls, we get to have a popcorn party!
Special note to Parents: Please do
not stress or remain upset with your child when they come home from
school and tell you that they had to "pull" a color that day.
My color system is in place to help teach the students to follow
rules, give them structure and boundaries, and to teach them
positive choices/positive circumstances, negative choices/negative
circumstances. I do not send a note home or notify you every
single time your child has pulled a color. If you child's
behavior does become a problem or a concern, then you will be hearing
from me! We will get together to discuss the problem and
hopefully come up with a plan of action that will result in a
positive outcome for everyone involved!
